Costus igneus is well known plant for its Ornamnetal and Medicinal Properties.
 It is believed that consumption of the leaves helps lower the blood glucose levels, and diabetics who consumed the leaves of this plant report a fall in their blood glucose levels.
Its anti-diabetic effect of the plant is a winner.
The diabetes patients have to chew down the Insulin plants leaves for a month.That is the patient has to take two leaves per day in the morning and evening for one week. Care should be taken that the leaves must be chewed well before swallowing.

Growing :Costus igneus grows in either full sun or partial shade. It needs fertile soil, with plenty of moisture. Due to these requirements, it is often required to plant near water. The flowering takes place in the summer season.It makes a nice aesthetic accent in landscaped shrub borders, where the orange flowers will contrast the greens of the shrub border.
